Aquaman is the next film for the DC Extended Universe. Directed by James Wan, Aquaman aims to bring Arthur Curry on screen in his own solo film in a unique and powerful way. Following Justice League, Warner Bros. is working to continue building out their universe, putting more focus on individual heroes and stories.
Aquaman was screened today to a group of people and I was able to speak one person who attended the screening to get their reaction to the film.
On their reaction to the film’s visual and narrative style, “Aquaman is Star Wars underwater, with a love-story serving as the backbone.”
On comparing this cut of Aquaman to Wonder Woman, “The VFX was not done, but the parts that were done looked gorgeous. Once the whole film is done, it will be amazing and it will rival Wonder Woman.”
On how James Wan’s directing in Aquaman compares to Zack Snyder, David Ayer, Patty Jenkins and Joss Whedon, “You can definitely tell it’s Wan’s style. From the very first scene; the angle of the camera, the scenery, the background, you can tell it came from a horror director. I was like..that’s classic. The very first scene/shot!!!!”
On the action of the film, “James Wan killed it with the action!!!”
On how much the film feels part of the DC Extended Universe that started with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, “Yes, they mentioned their victory against Steppenwolf and Aquaman’s quincentennial holds a story that connects to this Aquaman movie.”
On how this person felt about the DC Extended Universe as a whole after seeing this cut of Aquaman, “I jumped off the bandwagon after Justice League, but after seeing Aquaman, if they leave everything as it sits now, I’m back!!”
Aquaman will release December 21st, 2018
