D23 Expo Day Two: Marvel Phase 4 & The Rise of Skywalker

What a day so far at Disney’s D23 Expo! Movie announcements for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and other Disney movies will be flooding the internet throughout the day today but let’s recap what we’ve heard so far!

Lets begin with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker! A ‘legacy reel’ showing highlights of the Star Wars films were played for the crowd, and then of course, some footage of December’s highly anticipated conclusion of the Skywalker saga.

It’s said that the late great Carrie Fisher is the heart of the film, and rightfully so. The BIG shock is the fact that at the end of the footage, a hooded Rey is seen to be wielding a double bladed RED LIGHTSABER, much like Darth Maul! They then proceeded to show a poster, which shows Kylo Ren and Rey battling in front of Darth Sideous himself, who looms in the background. Unfortunately, no trailers were released but it is rumored we will see something new on Monday.

Marvel Studios announced the Black Panther II will be released on May 6th, 2022 with Ryan Coogler, returning to direct. Coogler also reportedly finished writing the recent treatment. Black Panther II might not be the final title of the film and there are a host of rumors on what it might tackle.

Kit Harrington’s MCU character was announced to be The Black Night in Marvel’s Eternals, reuniting him with fellow Game of Thrones actor Richard Madden. Also, there has been Black Widow footage shown, which reportedly shows her in an all white costume! Many new announcements for Disney + series’ such as Moon Knight, She Hulk, and Ms. Marvel were presented yesterday.

As for everyone’s favorite webslinger, Tom Holland stated, “Listen, it’s been a crazy week, but I want you to know that I am grateful from the bottom of my heart, and I love you 3000.” So it appears as though there will be no news on Spider-Man’s status in the MCU, but we shall remain hopeful!
