This past weekend, Dallas Fan Expo returned to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. The convention returned after a shorter-than-usual hiatus following the 2021 con being postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. However, the short turnaround time did not hurt the festivities, as fans came out in droves to celebrate.
The Fan Expo had all you could hope for in a con – celebrities, exhibitors, cosplay, and more! Notable guests included Brendan Fraser (The Mummy, Doom Patrol), the four Hobbits from The Lord of the Rings Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd, and the casts of Dexter, Superman and Lois, and several WWE superstars, amongst many others.
Voice actors and comic creators also turned out in droves to sign autographs and take photos. Notable voice actors included Troy Baker (The Last of Us), Steve Downes (Halo), Sean Schemmel (Dragon Ball Z), and the cast of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Ashley Eckstein, Matt Lanter, and James Arnold Taylor. Comic creators at the Fan Expo included Jim Lee (CCO, DC Comics), Tom King (Batman/Catwoman) and artist Francesco Mattina.

Exhibitors lined the show floor this year, packed with collectibles that covered any and all fandoms. Funko’s POP! figures were by far the hottest commodity, with thousands on display at dozens of booths. Art prints were stocked plentiful at booths as well, and with so many items for sale, it was very likely eagle-eyed collectors found their collectible “holy grail” at one of the tables.
For ourselves, the convention was welcoming and a great experience after being away for so long due to the pandemic. The staff were supportive and helpful, the entire convention felt safe and the fans were all in high spirits. We certainly enjoyed our time at Dallas Fan Expo and we look forward to returning again in the future!
Dallas Fan Expo brought in tens of thousands of fans to the area from all over the country, and it continues to cement itself as one of the premiere convention destinations in the midwest. If you’re looking for a fun, celebrity-filled, collection-heavy convention to visit next year, give Dallas Fan Expo a try in 2023!
